The alloys in this group are intended primarily as substitutes for the cadmium bearing alloys. They are all developed from the silver copper zinc system which in many cases has been modified by a small addition of tin. Tin is beneficial in that it reduces the brazing temperature and improves the fluidity of the alloy. Silver 60 & 61 are particularly suitable for joining Electrical Components requiring high electrical conductivity and give a close colour match of silver. Also used for brazing silver goods. Silver 60 Sn is specially for vaccum applications and brazing small parts most suited in protective atmosphere. Silver 55 is for use on any steels, copper and copper alloys, nickle and nickle alloys. Silver 56 is used by the dairy and food industry. After brazing gives a closer match with metals such as stainless steel. Silver 50, Silver 45, Silver 43 are widely used for electrical applications and in joining dissimilar metals. Silver 45 has broad applications in furnance brazing. Silver 40 (with Sn) , Silver 30 with Sn are free flowing alloys for ferrous, non-ferrous and dissimilar metals with good fluidity. Silver 30 & 25 are least silvers of this family. Moderate ductility limits joint design and applications. |
